SPRING SHOW 2019
The Saffron Walden Horticultural Spring Daffodil and Floral Show was
held on Sunday 14th April 2019 at the Golden Acre Community Centre.
This is the first of several events and Shows being held throughout
2019 to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the forming of the Society
in 1819.
The number of Exhibitors was slightly down from last year and
unfortunately, the number of Daffodils was down due mainly to the
warmer weather some weeks ago, but there was a good number of entries
for other plants and flowers, as well as the Domestic Section and
Junior section.
Richard Marriott swept the board by winning the Adams Harrison Cup,
for most points in the Show, the Townley Trophy for most points in the
Daffodil Classes and the Barnard Vase for most points in the Flower
section classes. Robin Crouchman was runner-up for all these awards.
Liz Livermore won the Daffodil Society Medal for her Daffodil “Fine
Romance”. Vera Willson won the Saffron Trophy for most points in the
Domestic Section and Giles Townley was runner-up. In the Junior
Section, the Scrivener Cup was won by Carys Williams; the Townley Cup
was won by Fayth Bowyer and the Rickett Shield by Carys Williams for
her drawing of the Easter Bunny.
The Ida Hawthorn Trophy was won by Nicci Townley. This year the
class was for a pot of 3 “Saffron Celebration” Daffodil Bulbs. Two
years ago members of the Society grew and chose an unnamed bulb from a
bulb-grower. This bulb has now been named to commemorate the 200th
Anniversary of the Society. It is now also in the bulb-grower’s
Catalogue for Autumn 2019.

their support with Raffle prizes.
