Outings

Three coach outings have been arranged for 2017, should you wish to reserve a place on any garden visit please contact the organiser and make your payment to the treasurer. Refunds will not be given due to the high cost of coach hire but you can nominate another person to take your place if you are unable to attend.
 £1 EXTRA NON MEMBERS FEE.

Valentines Mansion & gardens, Ilford, onto RHS Hyde Hall, Chelmsford

Tuesday 9th May. £28  inclusive; Tea/coffee twice.

Step back in time as you enjoy a guided tour of this mansion, led by a costumed interpreter. The house was built in 1696 for the widow of the Archbishop of Canterbury, later owners created impressive gardens and grottoes followed by a Georgian update in c1760s.  Today, the house boasts beautiful period furnished rooms and is surrounded by historic gardens and vast parkland. Lunches approx £5, picnics allowed.  On to 1.15 hour journey to RHS Hyde Hall with several hill top gardens with ponds, borders and lawns etc. for you to explore at your leisure

Depart: Swan meadow at 9.15 am Common at 9.25 am.

Arrival back approx 6.45 p.m

Hithchin Lavender, onto Knebworth House, Herts.


Tuesday 20th June. £36 inclusive price.

Tea/coffee & large scone on arrival inc. bring a picnic today.

Unfortunately we have just been informed that the RNRS has gone into receivership this month, all bookings have been cancelled and the Rose garden is now closed. I have been forced into finding an alternative to rescue our trip on 20th June and have been kindly accepted Hitchin Lavenders offer to take our group. Hitchin is closer to Knebworth and nearer to home. Timings and the afternoon visit to Knebworth remain the same. We will have tea/coffee on arrival then an hours guided talk and walk to the emerging lavender in various fields with several varieties. At least a quarter of the crop will be in full bloom and everyone has the opportunity to pick a free bunch to take home. There is a cafe onsite so check the Hitchin Lavender website for photographs and further information, or bring a picnic as suggested before.

Transfer to Knebworth House. 1 hr garden tour & 1 hr house tour 28 acres including walled and herb garden, planted borders and wilderness garden.

Depart: Swan meadow 9.15 a.m. Common at 9.25 am.

Arrival back approx 6 p.m.

Beth Chatto’s Garden and Colchester

Wednesday 12th July. £32 inclusive of morning tea/coffee, entrance and guided tour.

7 acres of gardens including; Reservoir garden, scree garden, museum,  woodland garden and its famous dry gravel garden. Beth was famous for transforming difficult areas into amazing plant filled artistic places. Onto Colchester at 2 p.m to the castle gardens or visit the town or museums for 2 hour wander on your own. Stop at Poplars nursery en-route home.

Depart: Swan meadow 9.30 am, Common 9.40 am. Arrive back approx 6 p.m.
